2007 Autumn (2)

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Here we are already into the second half of the Autumn term!

To begin this newsletter I would like to share with you the work that the staff did on the very first INSET day in September. As our staff has changed considerably over the past two to three years I felt it was timely to establish a shared vision underpinned by our values for our school.

A vision is what we want we want to achieve over the next few years.

Our values are the things we hold dear and are unchanging.

Our vision for Maidenbower Infant School:

To create a centre of excellence that will develop personalised learning journeys for all. In partnership with parents/carers, governors and the community we will recognise and celebrate the diversity of individuals and nurture them as life-long learners for the 21st Century.

To realise our vision we will:

  • Provide a safe, supportive, stimulating and inspiring learning environment
  • Enable learners to develop morally, spiritually, emotionally and socially
  • Maximise the potential of all learners
  • Use appropriate emerging technology to equip learners for the future
  • Promote and encourage healthy, happy lifestyles for all.

Please use the Contact Us page to make any comments about our vision statement.

Link Romania

Many thanks to those of you who have filled shoeboxes with gifts to send to Romania.
The boxes were sent with those from Pound Hill Junior School as we didn’t have enough to warrant our own collection. We will do our best to transport those that arrived late.

Linstead School, Jamaica

Those of you with children in Y1 and Y2 may remember that we collected £500, following the Christmas performances last year, to buy basic equipment for a school in Jamaica. Following all sorts of problems with cargo and customs the packages finally flew out on Monday 5th November! Hopefully it will all arrive safely and be a wonderful Christmas gift!

FLEECES AND BACK PACKS

Several children are wearing fleeces in school rather than, or as well as, their sweatshirts. Fleeces are lightweight jackets for outside and far too hot to be worn indoors.

We would rather the children did not bring back packs to school as they are too large to store in the cloakrooms tidily.

FIREWORKS POSTER COMPETITION

Congratulations to everyone who entered the competition.

The winners were

Kristopher Roelleke-Smyth (YR)

Holly Christian (Y1)

James Pockett (Y2) who each received a book token.

REMINDER

CHILDREN IN NEED: FRIDAY 16TH NOVEMBER: PYJAMA DAY!!!!

……………and on to Christmas!!

CHRISTMAS FAIR - Saturday 1st December 12.00-3.00pm

This year the Christmas Fair will be held at both the junior and infant schools.

Father Christmas, The Secrets Room and Year 6 games will be in the Infant School.

Again we need to collect gifts for The Secrets Room.

We plan to have a BAD HAIR DAY on 23rd November and in return we are asking you to provide gifts for dads to the value of at least £1, so that your children will have a wide choice of Christmas presents to buy for their families - parents, brothers and sisters.

A box for collecting the presents will be in the library.

CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE

Christmas Costume Helpers

If you would like to help with costumes please see your child’s class teacher. This could involve sorting through costumes we already have, altering costumes to fit, making new costumes. You are welcome to work in school or if it’s more convenient you can work at home.

Christmas Performances
This year our performances are on -

Thursday 13th December at 9.45 a.m. and 1.45 p.m.

Friday 14th December at 9.45 a.m.

A form for ordering tickets will be sent home before the end of November.

Two tickets per family are available for these performances.

Pre-school children cannot attend and we ask that you make your own child care arrangements as we will not be running a crèche.

You are welcome to bring pre-school children, grandparents and other visitors to our dress rehearsal on Wednesday 12th December at 9.45 a.m.

Party Day

Party Day is on Tuesday 18th December. The children can wear party clothes but will need sensible shoes.

As usual we will have a hat parade. Parents and children work together at home to create a hat with a Christmas theme.

We ask for a 50p donation towards party food. Please send your donation to your child’s class teacher by Wednesday 12th December so that our teaching assistants can go shopping!

Children will still need a packed lunch.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH BOX - Tuesday 11th December

If you would like to order a Christmas lunchbox for your child please see flyer (to follow) and order by telephone.
