15.6.09 Rainforests
Topic
We are looking forward to our trip to Wakehurst on Monday. It will be a good way to start our topic on rainforests. Before we go we will be talking to the children about what they already know about plants and they will ask questions about what they would like to find out during the trip. We will also be explaining the different activities that they will have the chance to do during the trip. Fingers crossed for good weather!!! This week we start to explore our new topic ‘rainforests’. We will use information books and the internet to find the answers to our questions. We will also be displaying the information we find in Rainforest Fact files. We will be using pictures, captions and labels.
Maths We will investigate grouping numbers. We will solve word and picture problems such as….. There were 3 trees with 2 monkeys in each tree. How many monkeys were there altogether? We will solve the problems by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will also use apparatus and create our own jottings to help us.
Ideas to try at home Sorting the laundry! Find pairs of socks and then count how many socks you have!
Tidying up the house! Find pairs of shoes. Count in 2s to help you find out how many shoes you have! PE We will continue to develop our football skills. This week, we will focus on working with a partner to pass and stop the ball.
Many Thanks The Yellow Unit Team
