‘Umbrellas’ by Renoir

Topic

We will continue our work based on “Les Parapluies” by Renoir. We will look at the painting in detail, discussing all the different shades of blue that we can see. We will be developing our skills as artists by creating our own shades of blue through colour mixing.

We will be learning more about France and some more French words! ‘Bonjour!’ We will put on our historian hats when we research the people who lived at the time the painting was set.

On Thursday we will be dressing up for our whole school French day. Children can dress up in red, white and blue or as French people. We will also be filling our own tasty baguette for our lunch!

This week we will also carry out a waterproof investigation to discover which types of material would make the best umbrella. At home you could talk to your children about what materials would be waterproof and then maybe even sort some for yourselves!

Maths

We will use tallying to record our favourite fillings for our tasty baguettes.

We will use our data handling skills to interpret the results.

PE

We will continue to develop our football skills.

This week, we will focus on working with a partner to pass and stop the ball.

National Smile Month

This week we will be singing the praises of carbohydrates!

We will be thinking about food that gives us energy and looking for good sources of energy in the children’s lunchboxes. Maybe you could put different things next week’s lunchboxes: e.g. pitta bread, bagel, wholemeal bread, pasta, rice, potato salad?

Please remember to return your slip for our Wakehurst trip as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday 10th June.

Many Thanks
